An essay assesses the strength of your critical thinking and your ability to put that thinking into a persuasive written form. Essays are used as assessment at University to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of a topic. They are also useful tools to promote thinking and learning. It is worth attending to all of the suggestions and comments you receive, and trying to act on them. A university essay can be thought of as an extended answer to a question.
